Rift is created in the way you cut the log.
This is not conventional cutting – cut the log into 4 pieces this will produce rift. The fiber is also consistent due to the size of the log. When you cut for rift you are getting the best region of the log for color and fiber this is why the log yield is low but the quality is very high. This wood is a hard and heavy wood with great wear-resistance.
